Scaling & Polishing
Plaque hardens into tartar in about 48 hours, and once hardened no toothbrush can remove it. Ultrasonic scaling breaks the deposits off the tooth and below the gum line, which is what stops the bleeding, the bad breath and — most importantly — the slow loss of bone that eventually loosens teeth.

Step by step
How the treatment works
- 1
Periodontal check
Pocket depths and bleeding points are charted so we can measure improvement later.
- 2
Ultrasonic scaling
Deposits removed above and below the gum line with water irrigation.
- 3
Polishing
A fine paste smooths the enamel so plaque takes longer to re-attach.
- 4
Technique coaching
Brushing angle, interdental brush size and flossing shown on your own mouth.
Real results
Scaling & Polishing — before and after
Actual cases treated at our Ulwe clinic. Results vary from person to person; we will show you what is realistic for your mouth at the consultation.

Recovery & aftercare
What to expect once you leave the chair
- Mild sensitivity to cold for two to three days is normal
- Use a soft brush and a desensitising toothpaste that week
- Interdental brushes daily — this is what keeps the result
- Repeat every six months, or four for smokers and diabetics
Common questions
Scaling & Polishing — your questions answered
Does scaling loosen teeth or damage enamel?
No. It removes the tartar that was already destroying the supporting bone. Teeth that feel different afterwards were loose before — the deposits were splinting them.
Do gaps appear after cleaning?
Where gums were swollen over heavy deposits, they shrink back to a healthy level and the true gap becomes visible. The gap was created by the disease, not by the cleaning.
