Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth arrive last and often have nowhere to go. A partly erupted or angled third molar traps food and bacteria, inflames the gum flap, decays the healthy molar in front of it and can trigger repeated jaw pain and swelling. Removing it early — before the roots fully form — is quicker, cleaner and heals faster.

Step by step

How the treatment works

  1. 1

    Imaging and planning

X-ray to map the root shape and its distance from the inferior alveolar nerve.

  2. 2

    Anaesthesia

The area is profoundly numbed; you stay awake but feel only pressure.

  3. 3

    Surgical removal

Where needed the tooth is sectioned so it comes out through a small opening instead of removing bone.

  4. 4

    Closure

The socket is irrigated and sutured. Sutures are reviewed after five to seven days.

Recovery & aftercare

What to expect once you leave the chair

  • Bite on gauze for 45 minutes; no spitting or straws for 24 hours
  • Ice pack outside the cheek in 15-minute cycles on day one
  • Cool soft food, and warm saline rinses only from day two
  • No smoking for a week — it is the main cause of dry socket

Common questions

Wisdom Tooth Removal — your questions answered

Will my face swell?

Some swelling on days two and three is normal for surgical cases and settles by the end of the week. Ice and the prescribed medication keep it minimal.

Should I remove a wisdom tooth that doesn't hurt?

Not always. If it is fully erupted, cleanable and biting correctly, we leave it alone and monitor it.

How long is the recovery?

Most people return to work the next day. Full socket healing takes two to three weeks.
